Splash Table, 2000

Splash explores customised engraving processes allowing a variety of designs in limited production runs. The technique interests us as it defines an object by its boundary and not by its mass. Depth and tri-dimensionality are achieved on 2D surfaces.
Different engraving techniques were tested on 20mm acrylic slabs creating contrasting visual effects and illusions through multiple reflections. The use of a V groove floating router creates a gradual difference in the thickness of the line produced as the acrylic varies in thickness as a cast object. Laser cutting produces precise etched lines and cut through voids.
